It's small, so you might miss it... On p. 81 Malott tells us that the reinforcer that's lost in a penalty contingency cannot be the one that maintains the penalized behavior. Good thing to remember if you do an extra credit CA showing a penalty contingency.

I teach courses in the principles and applications of Behavior Analysis, the science and technology of behavior, which is different from other approaches in psychology in that it takes behavior as a subject matter in its own right, rather than as a tool for studying something else, such as the mind. Right, I did miss it. So, the loss of points is the punishment contingency instead of the loss of attention since attention maintains the penalized response.
If you're talking about the scenario where Mark's threatening behavior is reinforced by attention, then yes. A better way to say it, though, is not that the loss of points is the penalty contingency. Remember that a behavioral contingency has at least three parts & the loss of points is only one of those parts - the consequence. You could say that loss of points is the aversive consequence that follows the target behavior.
